How does the Dermapen treatment work?

Unlike older generations of micro-needling rollers, the DermaPen® utilizes an automated, spring loaded, 11 micro-needled device to stamp the skin vertically. The depth of the “stamp” can be adjusted to treat superficial wrinkles or deep acne scars. The result of this stamping action, are tiny columnar wounds (aka microchannels) to the skin which stimulates new tissue, collagen and elastin growth without the heat trauma or expense of a laser. As a result, patients report less pain, quicker recovery and greater efficacy.

What is the difference between Derma Rolling and DermaPen?

Trans-epidermal Delivery (TED) with the Dermapen®
Looking at the skin after a treatment on a microscopic level, one would see thousands of micro-channels in the skin. These tiny channels act as a conduit for enhancing topical preparations, such as growth factors and peptides, at the cellular level of the skin. Growth factors and peptides are the building blocks for new collagen and elastic development.

During the Dermapen treatment when these micro-channels are completely open, Beaulaser Clinic offers the RG-Cell Growth Factor serums to be delivered directly down into the cellular layer of the skin via these micro-channels. Timing is of the essence as these micro-channels will close up within 60 minutes! The benefits of adding the RG-Cell Growth Factor serums are:

  • Firmer looking skin with renewed rejuvenation

  • Softens the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles

  • Helps skin damaged by photo-ageing

  • Faster recovery of skin appearance following Dermapen procedures

  • Increased hydration for softer skin

Is Dermapen micro-needling painful?

Most people rate the treatment at a 2-4 out of a 10-pain scale. Areas such as around the eyes and forehead can be a bit more sensitive than the rest of the face. A fast-acting topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin just before treatment to help increase comfort levels.

How many treatments will I need?

Benefits can be seen and felt after just one treatment. 4-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are recommended for optimal results. When treating acne scars, a greater number of treatments may be needed for more improvement. The number of treatments needed can be determined during a Complimentary Consultation.

What are the immediate after effects of micro-needling?

Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and possibly have some pinpoint bleeding, depending on how aggressive the treatment was. Makeup cannot be worn for 24 hours. There may be a minimal amount of swelling on day one and possibly more noticeable on the second day. By day three, most of the redness and swelling has subsided.

A post treatment product regimen will be prescribed for you to use at home.
