Common Questions Answered Upfront
Is It Permanent?
Laser hair removal is permanent hair reduction, not permanent hair removal. You can expect to see upto 95% permanent hair reduction in the treated area. There is no laser treatment available that can give you 100%.
The process involves targeting and destroying your current hair follicles, but new follicles can sometimes develop thanks to your hormonal or dietary changes or shifts in weight.
It is normal to have a single top up treatment after a certain period, as advised by the therapist.
Is It Safe?
The laser hair removal method is an FDA-approved and is proven safe for permanently removing unwanted and excessive hair.
When you first come to the clinic for a free consulation, you will have to complete a medical questionnaire and a small skin patch test. If there are no adverse reactions after 48 hours, then you are very safe and your skin is suitable to medical grade laser hair removal
Does It Hurt?
Though the question is relative to ones own pain threshold, the common descriptive is that it is like aas a rubber band snapping against your skin. Some feel a millisecond sting, whilst many don’t feel any pain at all. Though it is normal for your skin to be a little red and puffy immediately after treatment, there should no pain at all by the time you leave the clinic.
Will It Work On My Skin and My Hair Colour?
Our lasers can work on almost every skin type-from very light-skinned people (or what’s known as Type I on the Fitzpatrick scale, a skin-typing test) all the way up to Type V or even VI (which is dark skin).
The laser beam is focuses on the pigment in your hair. Hairs which are blonde, white or red lack pigment and thus are not suitable for treatment. Finer hairs, and hairs which are a very light brown are also more difficult to treat because of this.
During the free consultation and skin patch test we will be to advise the area you want treated will be suitable for laser hair removal.
How Long Does It Take?
This very much depends upon the area that is being treated. Hair removal for the ear area would normally take no more than 10 minutes. Whilst a full body laser hair removal treatment would on average take about an hour.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Laser hair removal works primarily when hairs are in the Anagen phase. In simple terms that is when the hair hairs is in its growing phase. Note each individual hair will be at a varying lifecycle. If the hair when treated is not in this stage then you would require another visit. To capture all the hairs, we normally space the treatments from four to six weeks.
Currently there is no scientific way of measuring which phase your hairs are in. Usually on average 20% of your growth will be in the anagen phase at any given time.
Therefore you are recommended to take up a course of between 6 – 12 sessions.
